Ivo and Ivelina met by chance in 2010 – life brought them together in the apartment building where his home and her office are located. Ivelina works as an insurance broker, and the young man is a police officer from the Security Police. Their acquaintance leads to gradually more frequent visits from the police officer, who ostensibly collects information about various insurance products, but his interest in the girl is visible to everyone sharing the office.
In June 2011, Ivelina moved to work in another office. However, Ivo’s visits continued in the new place, even becoming more frequent and more disturbing. The young woman asked her colleague to talk to him to convince him to leave her alone. The conversation yielded results and the visits temporarily stopped. Not long after, however, Ivo began to appear regularly at the young woman’s workplace again and to bother her by phone. Ivelina shared with a friend that his attempts to attract her attention were becoming increasingly intrusive – Ivo sent dozens of text messages, some of which had absurd content – for example, that in one year he had earned “100,000 leva as a police officer and that he could take her anywhere in the world, wherever she wanted”. One day Ivo unexpectedly appeared in Ivelina’s office, carrying as a gift a fake card of an employee of the Ministry of Internal Affairs with her photo. He explained to her colleague that in case of problems, she could use it to identify herself.
In the spring of 2012, Ivelina changed jobs again. However, the change did not help her separate from Ivo and she shared with friends that he not only continued the telephone harassment, but also almost constantly followed her in his car. Later, the mobile operator's report revealed that in just one day in the summer of 2012, there were 155 calls and text messages from his phone number to hers.
During this period, the police officer's obsessive behavior towards Ivelina became increasingly visible to her relatives and colleagues and increasingly unbearable for her. Her friends noticed that he appeared uninvited almost every time she went out in her free time, behaved obsessively, demonstrated that he could not be evicted, and flaunted considerable funds. They were particularly impressed by the fact that he always carried his service pistol and often allowed himself to take it out in restaurants and demonstratively leave it on the table. The policeman shows frequent and violent jealousy towards Ivelina, openly threatening her and her companions with physical violence – he tells how he will call “friends from Montana to break the arms and legs” of the man he considers his rival, and adds significantly that he set fire to his ex-girlfriend’s car and blew up the front door of another. Later, these allegations are confirmed – Ivelina is not the only victim of Ivo’s pathological interest. At the same time, another woman receives the same expression of his “love” – incessant telephone harassment, accompanied by visits to her home, during which he threatens her with a gun and tells her that if she does not go with him, he will shoot her. The young woman was forced to leave the city and go to the Black Sea coast. The enraged policeman begins to threaten her mother that he will find her and kill her, and the front door of their apartment is burned down.
The day before the fatal outcome in the relationship between Ivo and Ivelina, she once again wrote to him asking him to stop calling or searching for her in any way, and blocked his access to her social media profile. This prompted Ivo to take extreme action. He contacted two of his acquaintances and together they set out after Ivelina. They followed her all evening while she tried to meet up with friends with whom she had previously arranged to visit a restaurant, and on several occasions Ivo stopped her, threatened her and tried to block her car with the truck she was driving. This crossed the line of patience and Ivelina, together with her accompanying friends, went to the district police station to file a complaint against Ivo. Her complaint prompted the police inspector to immediately contact his younger colleague and warn him to stop harassing the woman. Meanwhile, Ivelina tells the officers on duty the entire chronology of the harassment against her and agrees with them on the first working day to prepare all the materials and meet with the police chief, to whom she can present them in order to begin an investigation. She then leaves the police station and tries to continue the planned evening with her friends. They visit a restaurant, then a disco. However, Ivo appears at the disco shortly after them, who is constantly following Ivelina. In the wee hours of the night, the young woman’s company leaves the establishment. They stop outside to say goodbye and organize their return home – some by taxi, others on foot, and still others in Ivelina’s car. While all this is happening, two of the friends notice Ivo, who is quickly approaching the open left door of the car in which Ivelina is sitting. The man leans over her, takes out his gun and shoots her several times in the head.
